Online Couples Counselling in Singapore: Make Time for Your Relationship

 October 27, 2026

You may still care deeply about each other, yet find it increasingly difficult to feel close.

Conversations turn into disagreements. One of you wants to talk while the other pulls away. You manage work, family and everyday responsibilities together, but the relationship itself gets whatever time and energy are left.

Perhaps you have talked about getting help, only to struggle with finding a time when you can both attend.

Online couples counselling gives you dedicated time to work on your relationship, without adding the journey to a counselling room. You can attend together from home or join from separate locations.

I’m Cassandra Chiu, a Registered Counsellor with 15 years’ experience working with couples. I help you understand the patterns keeping you stuck, work through difficult conversations and begin making changes you can carry into life together.

Make room for the conversation you keep putting off

Sometimes the hardest part is knowing how to begin.

You may worry that raising a concern will lead to another argument, or that your partner will hear criticism when you are trying to explain how lonely you feel. Over time, avoiding the conversation can start to feel easier than having it.

In our sessions, I help you slow things down and find words for what matters. We look at what happens between you: where understanding gives way to defensiveness, where hurt becomes anger and where attempts to connect get missed.

We can take a recent disagreement and work through it together, practising a different way to speak, listen and respond.

The aim is to help you have conversations that lead somewhere useful, including when you see things differently.

Support for the relationship you have now

You do not need to agree on exactly what is wrong before seeking couples counselling. One partner may feel the distance more strongly, while the other knows something has changed but struggles to explain it.

We can begin with what each of you is experiencing.

Online marriage and relationship counselling can give you space to address:

  • Recurring arguments that leave you exhausted rather than understood.
  • Emotional distance, loneliness or a loss of affection.
  • Trust damaged by an affair or another betrayal. Read about counselling after an affair.
  • Tension around parenting, money, work or extended family.
  • Differences in expectations, priorities or plans for the future.
  • Uncertainty about how to move forward together.

I welcome married and unmarried couples, including gay and lesbian couples. What matters is understanding your relationship and the help you are looking for.

Rebuild connection through everyday changes

Feeling closer often depends on what happens in small, ordinary moments.

It might be how you respond when your partner raises a worry, whether an agreement is followed through or how you find your way back after a disagreement.

My main approach is the Gottman Method, supported by Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy where helpful.

Together, we identify patterns that make connection difficult and build on what still works between you. We practise clearer ways to raise concerns, manage conflict and repair conversations that have gone badly.

Where trust has been damaged, the work also involves accountability and consistent action. Exploring the relationship does not make both partners equally responsible for a betrayal.

You will have opportunities to try changes between appointments. We then discuss what helped, what was difficult and what needs further attention.

Different locations, shared time for your relationship

Work travel, living overseas or spending extended periods apart can make it difficult to address concerns together.

You may find yourselves trying to resolve something important through messages, squeezing a difficult conversation into a late-night call or postponing it until you are finally in the same place.

Online couples counselling allows you to join the same appointment from separate locations. It creates shared time with someone guiding the conversation, helping you stay with the issue and understand each other more clearly.

You can also attend together using one device. Each arrangement needs enough privacy for both of you to participate openly.

If either partner will be outside Singapore, please share each person’s country and time zone when enquiring so I can confirm arrangements before booking.

Personal connection can happen online

It is understandable to wonder whether talking through a screen will feel comfortable, especially when the subject is your relationship.

Online sessions still give us time to listen carefully, explore difficult feelings and work through conversations as they unfold. You will work directly with me, with the same warm, practical approach I bring to in-person appointments.

Research is encouraging. A 2022 study involving 30 couples compared video and face-to-face delivery of a structured couples programme. Relationship satisfaction improved in both groups, with improvements maintained at the three-month follow-up. The study did not detect a significant difference in those improvements between the two formats. It also found that couples could develop a strong working relationship with the therapist through video.

For your relationship, we pay attention to how the sessions are working in practice: whether you can speak openly, whether we are addressing what matters and whether changes are beginning to show up between appointments.

Begin useful work from your first appointment

Your initial appointment gives us up to 90 minutes to understand what has been happening between you and begin working together.

We explore your concerns, what you have already tried and what you hope will change. As time allows, we also begin working on a specific difficulty—perhaps slowing down a tense conversation, helping you express something that has been hard to say, or finding a practical way to ease some of the pressure between you.

You do not need to prepare a joint account of the problem or decide who will speak first. I will guide the discussion and help us identify a useful starting point.

Follow-up appointments build on that work. We agree priorities, review what is changing and adjust our focus as we go.

A setting where you can both take part

Sessions usually take place through Google Meet. FaceTime or WhatsApp video can also be arranged.

For online counselling, you are responsible for arranging a suitable, private space where you can speak freely. If you are sharing a device, position it so you can both participate comfortably. If you are joining separately, headphones can help with sound quality and reduce feedback.

If you feel overwhelmed or emotionally unsettled during a session, we will work together on a plan to help you feel more settled and identify any support you may need afterwards.

Put work messages and other distractions aside for the appointment. This is time you have set aside for your relationship.

The same professional confidentiality boundaries apply online and in person. If individual meetings form part of our couples work, we agree how significant information affecting the relationship will be addressed. Separate individual counselling remains a distinct stream, with its own focus and boundaries.

If there is abuse, coercive control or fear of a partner, let me know before arranging a joint appointment. Safety takes priority, and individual or specialist support may be the appropriate starting point.

You can seek support even if your partner is not ready

One partner may feel hopeful about counselling while the other feels uncertain, uncomfortable or worried about being blamed.

It can help to make the invitation specific: “I would like us to get help with how we argue,” or “I miss feeling close to you, and I would like us to work on it.”

If your partner is not ready to attend, you can come on your own. Individual counselling can help you understand your experience, clarify your needs and boundaries, and consider your next steps.

Seeking help alone does not make you responsible for changing your partner or repairing the relationship by yourself.

Clear fees and dedicated time together

Your initial appointment is S$400 for up to 90 minutes.

Follow-ups are S$250 per one-hour appointment block, including approximately 50 minutes of counselling and the remaining time for clinical notes and administration. The first hour is charged in full. Any additional time is agreed beforehand and charged in 15-minute increments at S$62.50 per increment.

The same fees apply online and in person, including for overseas clients. No GST is charged. Longer appointments and counselling packages are also available.

Give your relationship some time and attention

You do not have to wait until the next argument or until you have run out of things to say.

You may want to feel closer again, find a way through a difficult period or understand what needs to change. We can begin there.

Contact me about an online couples counselling appointment. Tell me briefly what you would like help with and whether you will be joining together or from different locations. You do not need to explain your whole relationship in the first message.
